I'm Megan and I'm a Natural Barefoot Trimmer covering West Sussex and Aberdeenshire. I qualified as a practitioner with the Institute for the Study of Natural Horse Care Practices (ISNHCP) in 2023. This programme specialises in doing our best to provide a species-specific lifestyle, diet and environment, as well as mimicking natural wear patterns with the trim, for the whole horse's (not just their hooves) health and wellbeing.
The ISNHCP’s training practices and principles are based on Jaime Jackson’s (author of The Natural Horse and Paddock Paradise) observations and research into the wild, free roaming horses living naturally in the U.S. Great Basin. An environment that appears to be evolutionarily suited to the horse. The horses that he observed were sound and free of laminitis signs. It is the natural wear patterns of these horses that we mimic through trimming, as well as providing support on creating an environment and lifestyle as close as possible to the Great Basin’s horses.
Whether your horse has been barefoot for the last 10 years or you'd like to help them go barefoot for the first time, I'm here to support you both.
